Hypnotherapy for Change - One step at a time.........
                     How and Where I Work

Many years ago as a small child I fell in love with the beauty of Scotland......a love that developed and deepened over the years that followed and the many, many visits I was blessed to be able to make. My life dream was to one day make it my home.....to live in the West Highlands, in an off grid cottage.
Finally that dream came true.........

I am now lucky enough to both live and work from my beautiful little off grid cottage situated half way up a mountain.
One thing that never ceases to amaze me is the "lift" that I feel, at the beauty I see, every single time that I look out of the door......the mountains, the trees, the wildlife, the overwhelming peace and tranquility that surrounds me.
And it was this very reason that brought me to the realisation that I no longer wanted to work from a clinical setting, but to work with that which resonated so strongly with me, and to share this beautiful place that I am so blessed to be able to call my home.
Because of this decision, I am now able to offer therapy that is as flexible as I am, and as unique as you are. Your therapy will either be from my wee cottage, or out amongst the beauty that surrounds us, or a combination of the both.

Many people find the thought of face to face therapy indoors, in a clinical setting, a daunting or overwhelming prospect. Others may have tried therapy in conventional environments but found it uncomfortable or wished for a less intensive approach. If this resonates with you then my way of working may be a beneficial and helpful alternative for you.
Your therapy will start from where I shall meet you in the lane. From here we will walk, and explore that which you are looking to address, seek help with, and move forwards from. After our walk, we shall go up to the cottage. The walk up is relatively steep, however, we can take as long as is comfortable with you, making as many stops as you wish, to just take in the views as we go further up (the views are worth it - I promise). There are no constraints of time put on you......this is your time.
Once at the cottage, we will continue with your hypnotherapy session.
Of course, there may be some clients that prefer to take the walking part of their therapy session out, and this is absolutely okay. This is your therapy.........

Why Outdoors?
Nature is a great resource which has always been available to us, offering us a connection to create perspective, inner calm and healing. Trees, plants, wild animals, birds, the elements and the cycle of the seasons - all of these can be our teachers; mirroring our feelings and offering us the opportunity to increase our self-awareness.

I strongly believe that the natural world has the ability to help us connect more deeply to our true selves. Therefore I offer an alternative to purely room-based therapy, taking my clients into nature where it can become an important third partner in the therapeutic relationship that we share.
I believe that each person can work through their issues to find their own unique potential and wellbeing, when they are supported by empathic understanding and acceptance in an honest and authentic way. The outdoors can offer a safe and inspiring space in which to do this.
Being exposed to nature automatically releases chemicals in us that improve our mental wellbeing, and help our resistance to stressful situations. If you add to that a holistic approach to therapy, you have a situation that can benefit each individuals mental and physical wellbeing.

Why Walking?
I have long since believed that the rhythms of nature have the capacity to calm, heal, energise and inspire us. The way that I work is based on this belief.
Gentle exercise outside in a beautiful environment with plants and wildlife, fresh air and natural light, can be very therapeutic. It is one of the best ways to get fit, lower blood pressure, reduce cholesterol levels and the risk of heart disease. These physical health benefits are well known but recent research also suggests that it can improve our psychological health and mental wellbeing by enhancing our mood and levels of self-esteem. It may help to relieve symptoms of depression and anxiety, alleviate feelings of anger and confusion and reduce tension and fatigue.
It also encourages natural and social interactions and a feeling of ‘connection’ with the world.
The very act of standing upright, putting one foot in front of the other, is the most positive, primal way of stepping out on the path towards self-discovery and fulfilment.
I will be your companion on this journey.

When you add these benefits to those that come from being with an experienced and qualified therapist, able to listen and help you make sense of your emotional problems, you can begin to envisage a completely different sort of hypnotherapy session, one which combines the mind and the body.
Walking can take place at a gentle pace along the lanes, by the river, over the hills to name but a few options........the choice is yours......and whenever you want to rest, we can just rest.
This informal, less intense approach can often help talking about experiences and feelings easier.

Both the body and mind are inextricably linked, to move forward physically can also metaphorically help one mentally. To combine these two processors can help further the progress. This is particularly the case, when we feel ‘stuck’ or we feel little control in our personal situation. In these situations this form of therapy can bring an added sense of freedom over conventional therapy.

I look forward to working with you

Additional information
The view of the mental health charity MIND, and many others, seems to be that contact with green spaces improves our psychological health and mental wellbeing. It provides a restorative environment for people to relax, unwind and re-connect but crucially the combination of exercise and engagement with nature add up to more than the benefits of either alone.
